Women’s Illegal Solidarity

“The Section’s leader, Anastazja Konieczna, a welder from Wroclaw, spoke in the Senate and said that the Women’s Section of Solidarity did not support Solidarity’s standpoint. That was the beginning of the end.”

In the interview at Solidarity Gdańsk Shipyard Małgorzata Tarasiewicz coordinator of the women section founded in 1990 tells about the establishing and dessolution of the women trade union organization by the leaders of NSZZ „Solidarność”.

The Women’s Section demanded in 1990:

-More women in union leadership (c. 50%) / Change stereotypical gender views -Access to cheap & adequate child care / Paternity leave -Equal pay for equal work / End discrimination in nontraditional jobs, employment, promotion & pay / Ban legislation that discriminates women (incl. prison for abortion)
